Through our community coaching activities we provide opportunities for professional coaches to volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of local communities in York and the surrounding areas.
We do this because we know that coaching enables people to make significant and lasting changes in their lives and we know many coaches who are keen to offer their skills and experience to benefit our community.
Our Community Coaching Principles
- Community Coaching activities are undertaken on a voluntary (no fee) basis;
- Community Coaching has a direct benefit to the local community;
- It takes place within an agreed timescale and within an agreed number of sessions;
- Every coach involved is competent to fulfil the coaching assignment;
- We do not undertake coaching for which coaches would otherwise be paid;
- We are able to fulfil coaching assignments within the resources available to us.
Examples of community coaching projects and programmes
We have delivered coaching to ten volunteers in organisations that benefit local communities. Clients had voluntary roles in a range of fields including mental health, community volunteering, women’s wellbeing, disability and mentoring.
Tour de Tang Hall
Two of our coaches supported the Leader and the Organising Team as they planned for and delivered this community involvement project in Tang Hall. This involved a total of 12 sessions of one to one coaching and team coaching support, as the community group began to take on more responsibility from the City of York Council.
Hate Crime initiative
Coaching York supported a multi-agency project exploring new methods of dealing with Hate Crime. Three coaches contributed to the design and delivery of a workshop hosted in partnership with York Racial Equality Network and North Yorkshire Police and attended by a range of community groups, police, and local agencies. One coach is providing continuing support to a community group committed to eradicating Hate Crime.
Please see the ‘Community Coaching’ drop down menu at the top of the page for more detail and other examples of how we are using coaching to support people in public and voluntary bodies
